Attend important Neighbors Vs. the Burner free public meeting!
Internationally-acknowledged authority on the health dangers of incineration, Dr. Paul Connett, will be appearing on the Macalester College campus on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 7:00 pm. This NAB public meeting will be an opportunity to learn more about the hazards of building an RDF (refuse-derived-fuel) incinerator to generate energy for the Rock-Tenn paper recycling plant at Hwy. 94 & Cretin. The meeting will be held in the Davis Lecture Hall, Macalester College Campus Center, Lower Level at 1600 Grand Ave. (SW corner of Grand & Snelling Avenues, St. Paul). Bring your friends and neighbors; this will be a forum you won't want to miss!

The City Council (and the Mayor) must ultimately vote on anything that the St. Paul Port Authority proposes, so the Council and the Mayor DO have the power to stop this burner, even if the Port Authority recommends it.
It will also be important to contact our Ramsey County Commissioners to let them know how we feel about this burner. They had previously voted unanimously in favor of this burner, and were, according to officials at Rock-Tenn, the ones who first proposed an RDF burner to Rock-Tenn.
It is worth noting that, when the Dakota County Commissioners attempted to build a burner in Dakota County, they all lost their seats in the next election, and the burner was NOT built!

It is very important to let our City Council representatives know how we feel about the proposed Rock-Tenn burner. It also helps to let the Mayor know how we stand. The City Council (and the Mayor) must ultimately vote on anything that the St. Paul Port Authority proposes, so the Council and the Mayor DO have the power to stop this burner, even if the Port Authority recommends it. Two City Council members, Dan Bostrom and Kathy Lantry, also sit on the St. Paul Port Authority Board of Commissioners, so it’s very important to reach and convince them to stop the burner: Melvin Carter, Ward 1 Room 310-A City Hall, Saint Paul, MN 55102 651-266-8610; fax: 651-266-8574 email: ward1@ci.stpaul.mn.us Dave Thune, Ward 2 Room 310-B City Hall, Saint Paul, MN 55102 651-266-8620; fax: 651-266-8574 email: ward2@ci.stpaul.mn.us Pat Harris, Ward 3 Room 310-C City Hall, Saint Paul, MN 55102 651-266-8630; fax 651-266-8574 email: ward3@ci.stpaul.mn.us Russ Stark, Ward 4 Room 310-D City Hall, Saint Paul, MN 55102 (651) 266-8640; fax (651) 266-8574 email: ward4@ci.stpaul.mn.us Lee Helgen, Ward 5 Room 320-A City Hall, Saint Paul, MN 55102 651-266-8650; fax: 651-266-8574 email: ward5@ci.stpaul.mn.us Dan Bostrom, Ward 6 Room 320-B City Hall, Saint Paul, MN 55102 651-266-8660; fax: 651-266-8574 email: ward6@ci.stpaul.mn.us Kathy Lantry, Ward 7 City Council President Room 320-C City Hall, Saint Paul, MN 55102 651-266-8670; fax 651-266-8574 email: ward7@ci.stpaul.mn.us

Ramsey County Board of Commissioners really needs to hear from us. They have been deeply involved in the planning of the proposed Rock-Tenn incinerator and the proposed expansion of the Newport garbage processing plant.
